A few weeks ago, we received an invitation for the Master DataChef event from our partner Altares Dun & Bradstreet.
Yesterday we joined this promising event focused on data for customers and relations. The program consisted of a unique combination of a knowledge session by Kunal Doerbali, an expert in the field of Master Data Management, and a subsequent cooking workshop in the Kookfabriek in Rotterdam.
The link with cooking and Master Data seems surprising but is actually a perfect metaphor for how you as a Master Data Manager or CRM manager can streamline business information in your organization and what is needed for that. Your master data is thereby a symbol for the kitchen cupboard in which various ingredients (data) are stored. But sometimes the perfect recipe requires just that new, fresh ingredient (a new and up-to-date data source, for example), a different flavor combination (linking the right data for new insights), better kitchen utensils (CRM or other technology) or even a professional help (data chef) to put the best dish on the table. In short, there is a lot involved in “cooking with data”!
“1 to 2 percent of your data becomes outdated every day. If you enter data manually, mistakes are easily made. This costs companies money and time. Data is crucial for different processes in a company and with master data management the ROI increases considerably by automating your data cleansing, collection, and enrichment. That is why master data management is increasingly becoming the backbone of the organization,” says Kunal Doerbali, Business Consultant Master Data at Altares Dun & Bradstreet.
After the inspiring knowledge session with provocative questions to the audience such as who takes ownership of master data management? Or who has control over which data is not or will be collected? led by Adriaan Kom, Fred van der Werff from Altares Dun & Bradstreet and speakers from Stibo Systems, it was time to roll up our sleeves. Our group was directed to a cooking island and started to prepare a real 4-course menu under expert supervision.
In addition to the wonderful ambiance, there was plenty of time to talk about the knowledge session and of course to enjoy our culinary delights. It is a pity that the event was a “one-time” only occasion, but for the perfect recipe for master data, you can register for the exclusive video series and white papers that are still to follow.
Olbico is starting a special series on master data and master data management in November. We publish multiple articles and background information with inspiration and tips on how you can manage and improve your business information.
